A Minimal Spatial Cellular Automata for Hierarchical Predatory Prey Simulation of Food Chains

چکیده
Models of complex spatial environmental and ecological systems are usually constructed using partial di↵erential equations (PDEs), but cellular automata (CA’s) can provide microscopically simple yet macroscopically rich alternatives. We develop a cellular automata model of a hierarchical predator-prey system and show that even a minimal automaton is able to capture the essential boom-bust and dynamical behaviour of real physical systems. A single probability rate of predator death is used to control predator behaviour. We describe the model in detail and explore the CA model for oneand two-predator food chains. We find a well delineated phase transition in the 2-predator system when the predator lifetime parameter is varied and present some system analysis and quantitative metrics. We discuss the CA model in comparison with PDE and more detailed event-driven agent-based models.

Simulation and Evaluation of Urban Development Scenarios Using Integration of Cellular Automata Model and Game Theory
Urban growth is a dynamic and evolutionary spatial and social process that relates to the changes of urban spatial units and the transformation of people’s lifestyles and consequently demographic changes. Considering the urban development process as a function of land uses interactions, population structure and the strategic behavior of the agents involved in the urban development process (the ...

متن کاملCellular Automata Simulation of a Bistable Reaction-Diffusion System: Microscopic and Macroscopic Approaches
The Cellular Automata method has been used to simulate the pattern formation of the Schlögl model as a bistable Reaction-Diffusion System. Both microscopic and macroscopic Cellular Automata approaches have been considered and two different methods for obtaining the probabilities in the microscopic approach have been mentioned. The results show the tendency of the system towards the more sta...

متن کاملNiche-specific cognitive strategies: object memory interferes with spatial memory in the predatory bat Myotis nattereri.
Related species with different diets are predicted to rely on different cognitive strategies: those best suited for locating available and appropriate foods. Here we tested two predictions of the niche-specific cognitive strategies hypothesis in bats, which suggests that predatory species should rely more on object memory than on spatial memory for finding food and that the opposite is true of ...
